Nurturing Arts Workshops

With Naomi Newsham and Sophia Russell

Naomi is a retired community nurse with a background in Nutrition Dietetics and Waldorf Education and a lifelong interest in plant medicine. Having graduated from Tobias School of Art and Therapy she realises everyone can benefit from trusting themselves to be creative.

Sophia is a Registered Homeopath, Clinical Aromatherapist, M Technique Practitioner and Instructor, Doula and a Reiki Master and Teacher.  She brings her passion for and knowledge of plant lore, plant medicine and energy healing as we use our 12 senses to discover the qualities of the plant, medicinal and otherwise.

These workshops are designed to be nourishing and focus on one plant at a time. Using our senses to observe it, usually using pencils and pastels and sometimes watercolours, we gain a deeper understanding of the plant.  No previous experience  is necessary just enthusiasm and willingness.  They take place at Tobias School of Art and Therapies, East Grinstead, RH19 4LR.

Please bring a towel for a Weleda Foot Spa and your lunch.  Refreshments will be provided and all art materials are included.

"Thank you for today - all your knowledge and wisdom is inspiring.  What a treat!  I came home and had a sleep"  Hilary Davis

" I have now attended two of these workshops, the first on pine and the second hawthorn.  Naomi and Sophia create a very welcoming and inclusive space. Contributions are encouraged, which I found brought some very personal and meaningful sharing from myself and the other participants.

As someone who hasn't engaged in the visual arts since childhood, I was able to connect to a purely expressive mood devoid of any expectations of what the result may be. This contributed to creating a profound inner landscape of peacefulness.

I could tell the hawthorn workshop had met me deeply, as I drifted into sleep the characteristic leaf shape and striking crimson of the berry's illuminated my resting head.

Seeing the plants of the world in this light of reverence and awe makes the world a more meaningful and beautiful place. The insights gained from doing these workshops will live on in me, and be shared as treasured wisdom to others when we encounter these plant beings together in the wild".  Lewis - Brighton
